In the world of bedding, the term “high bed frames” can be fairly negotiable, as what’s high to one consumer may not be high enough to another.
The highest type of bed frame you’ll be likely to find is the loft bed, which usually sits five or six feet (1.5 to 1.8 meters) off the ground so either another bed can be positioned beneath it or storage space can be created beneath. Sometimes it is necessary to choose High Bed Frames for health reasons, as users may not be able to bend well to get in and out of a normal height bed.
If this is the case, then bed risers may be the best option, as these are inexpensive, easy to install, and fairly stable. Bed risers are inserts that can make a normal size bed frame into high bed frames; the casters or legs of the bed frame will rest on top of the risers, thereby lifting the mattress and box spring off the ground more. This is also a great way to create more storage space underneath the bed, which is useful in dorm rooms or other small bedrooms. Risers are generally made of either plastic or steel, and both are usually sufficiently strong.
Sometimes the High Bed Frames will be designed to be lifted higher off the ground from the manufacturer.
Choosing such a frame starts with determining why you need the frame to be higher up. If you are raising the frame for more storage space, you might want to consider a captain’s bed that features slide-out drawers meant for storage of clothing or soft goods. If you need to lift the bed for health reasons, it is important to choose High Bed Frames that are very sturdy so you will be supported adequately as you get into and out of the bed. Try to choose a bed in this instance that does not have prominent side rails on which you might get clothing caught or otherwise get tripped up by.
One way to get the frame higher off the ground without necessarily raising the mattress is to choose a platform bed. These beds do not require the use of a box spring, so the frame itself can be raised off the ground to free up storage space beneath, but the mattress itself will still generally sit at the normal level. This means the mattress will be positioned at a comfortable level without sacrificing more space beneath.
